Sell Your Gold & Jewellery in Dorchester

Gold moves daily — which is why we won't quote you a price on a website.

What we will do is weigh your gold in front of you, check the hallmark to confirm the carat, tell you the market price on the day, and explain exactly how we've arrived at our offer. If you'd like to go away and think about it, you're welcome to. If you'd like to sell on the spot, we can usually do that too.

Free verbal valuation. No obligation. No pressure.

Your valuation comes from Sandy Jordan

Before opening Jordans Jewellers in 2013, Sandy spent 7 years as a financial adviser and 16 years in banking, followed by a decade buying and selling antique jewellery across the national fair circuit. That means your gold isn't just weighed and tested — it's assessed by someone trained to value assets properly and explain the numbers clearly.

Sandy carries out all valuations personally at our Dorchester shop.

What you can bring in

Anything gold or precious metal, in any condition:

  • Rings, chains, bracelets and earrings you no longer wear
  • Broken, damaged or mismatched pieces
  • Inherited or estate jewellery — even a whole box of things you're not sure about
  • Hallmarked or un-hallmarked items (Sandy can identify what you have)
  • Pieces with gemstones — if the stones have value, that's assessed separately

How your gold is valued

Every item is assessed individually. Sandy looks at three things:

  • Hallmark — Sandy reads the hallmark to identify the carat (9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct). If a piece is unhallmarked or the mark is unclear, it can be sent off for professional testing
  • Weight — weighed on scales in front of you
  • The market price on the day — based on the live gold rate at the time of your visit

Some pieces are worth more as jewellery than as metal. If that's the case, Sandy will tell you — it's one of the advantages of selling to a jeweller rather than a scrap buyer.

Your options

You don't have to sell outright. Sandy will explain all the routes available:

  • Sell — where we're able to buy your item, we'll make you an offer on the day
  • Part-exchange — put the value of your gold towards something you'll actually wear
  • Remodel — if a piece has sentimental value but isn't your style, Sandy can have it redesigned into something new. A diamond from an old ring can become a pendant, a pair of earrings, or part of a bespoke engagement ring

Not sure which option suits you? Book a no-obligation appointment and Sandy will talk you through everything in person.

Why people sell to us rather than posting their gold

Postal gold-buying services exist, and some are reputable. But when you sell in person at Jordans:

  • You watch your gold being weighed and tested — nothing happens behind a curtain
  • Sandy explains the calculation, not just the number
  • You keep hold of your jewellery until you've accepted the offer
  • There's no risk of items being lost or undervalued in transit
  • You can ask questions and take your time

We're rated 5.0 on Google from 68 reviews. Several are from customers who came to us specifically for valuations.
