            Garnet: Meaning and Symbolism

The garnet is one of the most beautiful gemstones you can find and is the birthstone for January. It’s name comes from the Greek word ‘granatus’ which means pomegranate.

When most people think of garnet they picture the famous deep red colour, however garnet can actually be found in a range of colours including green, pink and purple.

Garnet has long been known to be associated with creativity and love, and much like many gemstones, has many legends and stories attached to it, some stretching as far back as biblical times. Some say that a garnet was one of the stones given to Solomon by God, and that there were garnets on board Noah’s ark.

In the Middle Ages, garnets were believed to help to cure ailments such as depression and served as protection against bad dreams.

Today some believe garnet has the power to enhance creativity, strength and self-empowerment.

If you're looking for the perfect piece of garnet jewellery, then take a look at our January's Birthstone Collection, which features many stunning items, including both the earrings and necklace shown above!
